Just a few thoughts on Nancy Pelosi’s recent outburst, decrying the fact that some of the posters at the anti-Obama rallies use language that is a bit on the “edgy” side.
In a September 17 news conference in which she repeatedly choked back tears, she said, “I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw this myself in the late 70s in San Francisco. This kind of rhetoric was very frightening and it created a climate in which violence took place, and I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements that are made… understanding that some of the ears that it is falling on are not as balanced as the person making the statement might assume…”
Sticks and stones, Madam Speaker.
What Ms. Pelosi obviously knows, but refuses to acknowledge, is that conservatives and Republicans have only words to fight with, and those words are almost always civil in tone. Unlike Democrats, they cannot pick up a telephone and, within hours, have thousands of angry union goons in the streets to rough up citizens who are merely exercising their First Amendment rights. Democrats can, and do.
Conservatives and Republicans have never been able to pick up a telephone and, before the next morning, have an uppity black or a white Republican activist flogged, hanging from a tree, or burned out of house and home. Although the Klan has gone mostly underground, they have always been at the beck and call of Democrats. Conservatives and Republicans can’t even pick up a phone and order a cross to be burned on someone’s front lawn. Democrats can, and do.
Conservatives and Republicans can’t pick up a telephone during the early months of an election cycle and order the red-t-shirted members of a corrupt leftist organization, such as ACORN, to immediately produce several million new registered voters, real or imaginary, dead or alive. Democrats can, and do.
Conservatives and Republicans can’t pick up a telephone and, within hours, have busloads of purple-shirted rabble from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) bussed to the scene of a peaceful anti-Obama demonstrations to rough up and intimidate senior citizens. Democrats can, and do.
Conservatives and Republicans can’t pick up a telephone and have millions of senior citizens propagandized by a Democratic front organization, such as AARP, convincing them that they are benefitted when Social Security and Medicare reform is derailed. Democrats can, and do.
Nor can conservatives and Republicans pick up a telephone and instruct unionized teachers to purposely dumb-down the children in their classrooms so that, as young adults, they will become much more amenable to certain political ideals. Democrats can, and do.
Jimmy Carter seems to think that racism has “bubbled up to the surface” because many white people believe that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country.” Well, Jimmy, you’re only partly right. I could name a number of black men and women who would be capable of leading our great country. Unfortunately, Barack Obama is not one of them.
