INTRODUCTION
Our nation has been drifting, now running away from the basic principles it was founded upon . This loss of freedom accelerated in 1913 with the passage of the progressive income tax (Karl Marx insisted on this, you know) and the establishment of the Federal Reserve Bank. The “Great Depression” of the thirties gave rise to a host of statist programs promulgated by both Hoover and Roosevelt that plunged our nation even further toward a society dependent on government for control and direction. During the “sixties”, Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” edged us even closer to the “Nannie State” with all of the high taxes, mandatory laws and strangling regulations that accompany a command economy.
Nixon’s price controls, Carter’s stagflation and the two Bush’s attempts at “International Adventurism” (read One-World-Government) and deficit spending pushed our nation ever closer to the precipice.
We had a brief respite during Clinton’s term because he was absorbed with sexual peccadilloes and the Republican Congress, with their “Contract With America” provided a temporary brake on the advance of the State. It was sad the GOP’ers did not exhibit the same fiscal integrity when George W. Bush was President. And now we have Barak Hussein Obama. Our nation has never seen such a surge toward state-ism as we have seen since this man took office and the Democrats gained control of both houses of Congress. The obscene deficit spending, the quasi-nationalization of the auto industry, the banks, the insurance industry, much of the investment sector and the health care industry has precipitated a gigantic leap toward an actual socialist/fascist state.
Many citizens see so much of this as a tragic event but yet feel helpless to stop this disaster. Apathy and hopelessness has gripped much of the country. This has enabled those on the left to take advantage of this appalling lack of resistance, thus leading our nation toward totalitarianism.
We must not let this continue. We can and should rise up and defend the freedoms that so many have died to secure for us. Many individuals have said, “I don’t know what to do”. This brief brochure is an attempt to show you what you can do. Fortunately there are a host of organizations trying to preserve our free-market, private property, capitalistic form of government. These principles have provided more freedom and a much higher standard of living for our people than any other nation in history.
You can either join one of these groups and actively participate or you can support them financially. But it is equally important that you educate yourself in the ideology of freedom by reading, listening and watching. To this aim, we are including a list of organizations, electronic media resources, periodicals and books.
We apologize for those we may have inadvertently omitted. We will have another printing of this pamphlet and anyone who wishes to add additional material, please notify us at maurice@idaland.com. We hope this information will assist you in your better-late-than-never quest for more knowledge about the disappearing freedom philosophy.
The future of our country, of course, depends on us. We cannot rely on someone else to do this for us. Therefore we invite you to join us in the most important challenge that has faced our nation since 1776.
Here’s hoping our efforts are not too late.
Yours for a lot less government !
