all of whom we know to be incompetent and thoroughly dishonest rascals.

The only honest comparison would be one gained by totaling the percentage of the vote won by every member of Congress in their last election campaign, and then dividing that number by the total number of persons in the Congress. Comparatively, Obama’s approval rating would look rather anemic… as well it should.

The question now on the minds of serious Americans is… given the outlandish behavior of Obama and his Democrat supporters in the Fast and Furious fiasco, the Benghazi incident, the cross-border invasion of illegals, the Syrian civil war, the debt ceiling crisis, the Obamacare disaster, and numerous other incidents of mismanagement and outright criminal behavior… where do we go from here? If Obama insists on giving his low-information Kool-Ade drinkers assurances that he is willing to sit down with Republicans to negotiate their differences, but then consistently refuses to sit down with Republicans and refuses to negotiate, what’s to be done?

The frustrations of decent, hard-working Americans has all but reached the boiling point. The frustration with Democratic intransigence and name-calling has reached the point where serious-minded people are beginning to speak the word “secession.”

In a widely-published October 11, 2013 article, titled “Is Red State America Seceding?” former Nixon and Reagan administration official, Patrick J. Buchanan makes the case that the potential breakup of the United States would not be an unprecedented development. He points out that, during the final decade of the 20th century, one of the world’s two great super-powers, the Soviet Union, disintegrated.

Out of that largely bloodless disintegration came the independent European nations of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Moldova; the Caucasus nations of Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan; and the Central Asian nations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Czechoslovakia became the Czech Republic and Slovakia and, in a much far less peaceful disintegration, Tito’s Yugoslavia dissolved into the nations of Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Kosovo.

Almost everywhere we look across the globe, international boundaries are changing. But is the United States immune to such change? As Buchanan reminds us, “The spirit of secession, the desire of peoples to sever ties to nations to which they have belonged for generations, sometimes for centuries, and to seek out their own kind, is a spreading phenomenon.” He asks, “What are the forces pulling nations apart? Ethnicity, culture, history, and language… but now also economics.”

Buchanan points out that, “While many Red State Americans are moving away from Blue State America, seeking kindred souls among whom to live, those who love where they live… but not those who rule them… are seeking to secede. The five counties of Western Maryland… Garrett, Allegheny, Washington, Frederick, and Carroll… which have more in common with West Virginia and wish to be rid of Baltimore and free of Annapolis, are talking secession.”

In Colorado, ten of the state’s northern counties… Cheyenne, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, Weld, and Yuma… will conduct non-binding referenda in November, seeking to learn the desire of their citizens regarding separation from the oppressively liberal government in Denver. Supporters of the referenda favor secession from Colorado and the creation of a 51st state.

The issues that divide Marylanders and Coloradans are much the same issues that divide Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals, elsewhere in America: gun control, high taxes, excessive and oppressive government, energy policy, homosexual marriage, abortion, immigration, the poor quality of public education, and the lack of a free press.

It should be clear to all conservatives and Republicans by now that it is impossible to work with liberals and Democrats to solve problems because, in their world, there is no compromising with competing ideologies; it’s only “my way or the highway.” It’s time we all concluded that, a) the United States is the greatest nation on Earth, b) that when the United States becomes a failed state there is no place to go, c) that the entire history of liberalism in America has been one of replacing individual liberty and self-reliance with government control and personal dependency, d) that the Democratic Party has been the primary vehicle for anti-constitutional transformation throughout our history, and that e) as such, the Democratic Party is the enemy of all that has made our nation great. So, if conservatives and Republicans are unwilling to simply abandon constitutional and long-held moral principles, what alternatives are open to us?

The conservative Freedom Outpost website published an essay on October 17, titled A Call For Secession and, if Necessary, Civil War. The author writes, “Civil War is upon you, whether you would have it or not. The time has come to realize that words and the election process will not avail to turn the tide that is rushing toward you. The time for idleness has ended. The time for action is upon us. Yes, I am openly calling for Civil War, for the Confederacy and the Red States to secede, peacefully if allowed, by force of arms if not. The time to act was long ago, the window to act is almost closed. Our country is being bankrupted, our morals and religion destroyed by all manner of perversions and horrors, our top military generals and leaders fired, our borders left wide open, deceptive legislation designed to subvert our freedoms and our way of life are being passed with little to no resistance, and our status as (a) superpower almost gone. This is all by design, moves on the chess board.”

As for me, of the two alternatives I much prefer secession to civil war. A new 15-state, energy independent, nation comprised of the states of Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming, would be an economic powerhouse in the community of nations, quite a nice place to live… a place where we could once again be certain that the dog wags the tail, not the other way around.

In the midst of the Clinton-Lewinsky scandals of the late 1990s, Hollywood produced an art-imitates-life film, titled Wag the Dog, in which the president of the United States is caught in the act of making improper sexual advances toward an …
