Fish Rots from the Head

The mainstream media apparently have Republican leaders so gun-shy that they are rarely able to speak the truth in response to Democratic attacks. Anyone who doubts that should have watched Meet the Press on Sunday, May 19, when host David Gregory interviewed GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell. McConnell was so intimidated by Gregory that the only words he could utter were: “Well, we don’t know that as yet.” Or, “We’re still looking into that.” He was an absolute failure as an advocate for the conservative cause. Not once did he take the opportunity to do damage to Obama and the Democrats at a time when they are more vulnerable than ever before.

But McConnell is not the only sinner in that regard. Allow me to suggest just a few issues where Republican leaders can’t seem to find their voices.

The Race Card

In a recent appearance on MSNBC, former NAACP chairman Julian Bond, said, “I don’t think there’s a double standard at all. I think it’s entirely legitimate to look at the Tea Party. I mean, here are a group of people who are admittedly racist, who are overtly political, who tried as best they can to harm President Obama… They are the Taliban wing of American politics and we all ought to be a little worried about them.”

Admittedly racist? The Taliban wing of American politics? It’s been clear for many years that Julian Bond is totally bought and paid for by his Democratic masters, but is it possible that he really doesn’t know which of the two political parties is the home of racism in America? Why are Republican leaders not reminding him that the Ku Klux Klan is, was, and always has been a paramilitary arm of the Democratic Party? Why are they not reminding people that, between the years 1882 and 1951, the Klan, acting as the enforcement arm of the Democratic Party, lynched some 3,437 blacks and 1,293 whites, nearly all Republicans?

Although the identity of the murderers was almost always known, arrests and prosecutions were rare. Tuskegee Institute records indicate that, during the first thirty years of the 20th century just twelve trials of KKK terrorists were held, resulting in only sixty-seven convictions. Why, you ask? Because essentially all of the sheriffs, prosecutors, and judges were Democrats. To the extent that racism still exists in America, it is found almost exclusively within the Democrat Party. Republicans should be asking Bond what it’s like to share a political party with members of the KKK. Does he enjoy sitting next to them at party meetings and conventions? Does he party with them? Are they beer-drinking buddies?

The IRS Scandal

In his sworn testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, IRS Acting Commissioner Steven Miller referred to the IRS targeting of Tea Party organizations and other conservative interest groups as “foolish, obnoxious, and insensitive.” He explained away IRS wrongdoing by saying, “From my understanding, it was bad management.” He explained that there was a “lack of controls,” and that “foolish mistakes” were made “by people who were trying to be more efficient in their workload selection.” According to Jay Carney, Obama’s principal “butt boy,” no one in the White house had any idea of what was going on. Uh-huh!

So what is it that Republican leaders are not saying? I have yet to hear a single Republican make mention of the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), a militantly anti-Republican, anti-Tea Party union that represents government bureaucrats across a broad spectrum of government agencies. Most importantly, within the Treasury Department, the NTEU represents employees in the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Bureau of the Public Debt, the Financial Management Service, the Internal Revenue Service, the Office of Chief Counsel, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Tax and Trade Bureau.

The American Spectator has examined White House visitor logs for March 31, 2010, and has found the following entry: “Kelly, Colleen – POTUS 03/31/2010 12:30.”

What that tells us is that Colleen Kelly, president of the NTEU, met with POTUS, the President of the United States, on March 31, 2010, at 12:30 PM. According to the Treasury Department Inspector General’s Report, it was the very next day, April 1, 2010, that IRS employees began the targeting of Tea Party groups and other conservative organizations. Pure coincidence?

According to a recent report by CNSNews.com editor-in-chief Jeffrey Lord, in the 2012 General Election the NTEU PAC gave a total of $156,750 to Senate Democrats and just $1,000 to Senate Republicans. In House races, the NTEU gave $391,100 to Democrats and a paltry $23,000 to Republicans. So why are Republican leaders not demanding to know what Obama and the IRS union leader discussed? And why are Republican leaders not questioning why IRS agents, who regularly conduct themselves as if they were elite Nazi storm-troopers, and who have the power to ruin the lives of citizens on a whim, should even be allowed to belong to a labor union? Is it too much to suggest that the IRS is the Democrats’ KKK of the 21st century?

Abortion and the Kermit Gosnell Trial

Between the years 1972 and 2011, Dr. Kermit B. Gosnell operated an abortion clinic in the Mantua district of West Philadelphia. One of Gosnell’s specialties was “late term” or “partial birth” abortions, a procedure in which the abortionist snips a hole at the base of the baby’s skull when the head emerges from the birth canal, and then collapses the skull by suctioning out the brain. In some instances, when viable infants survive the abortion procedure as early as 26 or 27 weeks, the newborn babies are laid aside, denied medical attention, and simply allowed to die.

Beginning in the Clinton years, the Democratic Party Platform contained a phrase insisting that abortions should be “safe, legal, and rare.” That language was stripped from the party platform during the Obama era, putting the Democrat Party squarely in support of unrestricted abortions practices. Why are Republican leaders not hanging that around the necks of Democrats?

Nearly every American, with the possible exception of the low-information voters who elected Obama, are aware of the gory details surrounding multiple charges of 1st degree murder lodged against Gosnell. So why are Republicans not confronting Democrats with the fact that Gosnell’s gruesome business is officially endorsed by their party? And why do we not hear Republican leaders reminding the American people that, as a State Senator in Illinois, Barack Obama voted three times… in 2001, 2002, and again in 2003… to support medical practices such as Gosnell’s chamber of horrors. He voted three times against legislation that would have required doctors to give life-saving medical attention to infants born alive in botched abortions. So why haven’t Republicans hung Kermit Gosnell tightly around the necks of Obama and other Democrats?

Sexual Assaults in the Military

According to news reports, the Pentagon has recently announced that some 85,000 servicemen and women were treated for injuries received in violent sexual assaults in calendar year 2012.

Just as he promised that the terrorists who murdered our ambassador in Libya would be brought to justice , and just as he promised that those in the IRS who harassed Tea Party groups and other conservative organizations would be identified and punished, Obama now bloviates about how the military must work harder to reduce sexual assaults in the ranks. He said, “I don’t want just more speeches or awareness programs… if we find out somebody is engaging in this stuff, they are going to be held accountable.” He promised that they will be “Prosecuted, stripped of their positions, court-martialed, fired, (and) dishonorably discharged. Period. It is not acceptable.”

One can’t help but wonder where all the sexual assaults in the military were during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War… before Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, gays, lesbians, and radical feminists decided to turn the U.S. military into a gigantic social laboratory. In my two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era, I can recall hearing of only one sexual impropriety of any kind. That was an episode in which a nineteen-year-old PFC in my unit was caught making love to the Provost Marshal’s daughter in the center aisle of the post chapel.

Aside from questioning the wisdom of gender equality and open homosexuality in the military, the point that Republicans fail to make is a very simple one: good order and discipline, morale, and respect for one’s uniform, are entirely dependent upon respect for one’s superiors. That’s how the military works. So how does a serviceman or woman respect their fellow soldiers and their superiors when the man at the top, the commander in chief, merits no respect? How can they be expected to respect a man who failed to registered for the draft at age 18, when required to do so, and only produced a forged draft registration card at age 47 when he decided to run for president of the United States?

Given the number of career-threatening scandals now swirling around Obama’s head, he has quickly become the poster boy for the ancient proverb, “The fish rots from the head.” But Republican leaders pretend not to notice the stench. Prosecuted, stripped of position, court-martialed, fired, dishonorably discharged? We know who deserves all of that.

The mainstream media apparently have Republican leaders so gun-shy that they are rarely able to speak the truth in response to Democratic attacks. Anyone who doubts that should have watched Meet the Press on Sunday, May 19, when host David …
